Why I Created “Returning to the Source of the Heart” — An Invitation Born from a Lifetime of Pilgrimage

💜  “The greatest pilgrimage is not across continents. It is the journey from the mind back to the heart.”  💜

People often ask me why I feel called to lead pilgrimages. My answer is simple.

🙏  I am not inviting people to follow me 🙏

🙏  I am inviting them to walk beside me 🙏

For many years, my life has unfolded through two parallel journeys.

🪷  One has carried me across the world.

🪷  The other has carried me inward. Together, they have become one path.

💜 Returning to My Roots 💜

I was born in China and spent more than two decades growing up in this extraordinary civilization.

China is far more than a destination on a map. It is my birthplace.  It is the landscape that shaped my earliest memories, my language, and my understanding of life.

Over the years, I have returned again and again to explore its sacred mountains, ancient temples, historic cities, and cultural treasures. From the Great Wall to hidden monasteries, each journey has deepened my appreciation for a civilization that has preserved profound spiritual wisdom across thousands of years.

Yet, my greatest discovery was not found in any temple.

🎁 It was found within  🎁

💜 The Journey Inward 💜

Eighteen years ago, Vipassana meditation entered my life.

It transformed the way I travel.  Every journey gradually became less about seeing the world and more about seeing the mind.

One of the defining experiences of my life was a one-hundred-day solo pilgrimage through India, Nepal, and China.

🪷  That journey forever changed my understanding of what pilgrimage truly means. 🪷

Out of gratitude, I wrote Travelling Inwards, published by Hay House.

Although many readers saw it as a travel memoir, my deeper intention was always the same:  To encourage others to begin their own inward journey.

👣 Walking Across Ancient Civilizations  👣

Since then, I have continued walking through lands where humanity’s wisdom traditions were born and nurtured.

From the Himalayas of Nepal and India to Jordan, Egypt, Türkiye, Peru, Bolivia, France, Spain, Canada, the United States, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, Singapore, Japan, Cuba, Mexico, and Jamaica, every country has become another teacher.

🎁  Every culture has revealed another expression of the human spirit.

🎁  Every pilgrimage has reminded me that history does not live only in museums or books.

👣  It lives in the land.

👣  It lives in the people.  And it lives within each of us.

💜 Why “Returning to the Source of the Heart”? 💜

Because I believe that every authentic pilgrimage ultimately leads to the same place.

  • Not to a mountain.
  • Not to a monastery.
  • Not to an ancient city.

But to the heart.  Whether we walk around Mount Kailash, meditate beside Lake Manasarovar, wander through the Mogao Caves of Dunhuang, or stand beneath the Great Wild Goose Pagoda in Xi’an, these sacred places are not asking us to become someone else.

They are inviting us to remember who we have always been.

  • To return to the quiet source beneath our fears.
  • To rediscover the compassion beneath our differences.
  • To awaken the wisdom that has always lived within.

That is what I mean by Returning to the Source of the Heart.

👣  Walking Together  👣

This pilgrimage is not about having all the answers.

  • It is about asking better questions.
  • It is not about escaping everyday life.
  • It is about learning how to live everyday life with greater awareness, kindness, and courage.

👉   I do not see myself as a guide standing in front of others.

👉   I see myself as a fellow pilgrim who has walked many roads and who continues to learn with every step. There will be :

  • Moments of silence.
  • Moments of laughter.
  • Moments of challenge.
  • Moments of profound beauty.

And through them all, we will remind one another that the path is not something outside ourselves.

👣 We become the path by walking it with awareness  👣

💜 A Shared Vision for Our World  💜

Our world is longing for more than information.

  • It is longing for wisdom.
  • It is longing for compassion.
  • It is longing for people who live with open hearts.

Imagine a circle of sincere seekers walking together across some of humanity’s most sacred landscapes—not simply to admire their beauty, but to cultivate inner peace, honor the cultures that have protected these places, and become living expressions of kindness.

  • Each mindful step becomes an act of gratitude.
  • Each moment of silence becomes a prayer.
  • Each act of compassion becomes a quiet blessing for our magnificent planet and for all living beings.

👣  Perhaps this is the deeper purpose of pilgrimage  👣

Not simply to be transformed ourselves.  But to become people whose presence brings a little more peace wherever we go.

💜 An Invitation 💜

  • If something within you has been quietly calling for a slower, deeper, more meaningful way of living…
  • If you feel drawn to the sacred mountains of Tibet, the timeless pathways of the Silk Road, and the wisdom carried across generations…
  • If you long to unite outer adventure with inner awakening…

I warmly invite you to walk beside me.

  • Let us return—not only to sacred places, but to the Source of the Heart.
  • Let us walk gently upon the Earth.
  • Let us honor the wisdom of those who came before us.
  • Let us support one another in our inner work.

And together, may we become a blessing for humanity, for our magnificent planet Earth, and for all beings.

👣  The path has always been here. Perhaps now is the time to walk it—together. 👣
